Norah Ludke started this petition to Alexandria City Council and

Alexandria City has decided to close the Chinquapin pool in the mornings. This is a huge problem for many residents who rely on the morning swim times to get some exercise before heading to work or school. The goal of this petition is to reach the city council and help raise awareness on why they should open Chinquapin pool in the mornings and be consistent with the State of Virginia COVID-19 pool regulations.

In the early mornings, a couple of swimming teams would rely on Chinquapin as a local facility to practice and train. Two of these teams include The Marlins Swim Team and L4 Swimming. The Marlins have relied on Chinquapin for years as a place to train their kids, while L4 allows adults to have a regular place to exercise. These teams provide a large amount of revenue for the pool and the city, but they also provide fun and diversity for Alexandria citizens looking to have a safe place to swim. Additionally, Chinquapin should take into consideration the other local pools and how they are complying with the new regulations for swimming during COVID-19. This means allowing up to 6 people in a lane at 10 feet apart for team-based training.

Access to a reasonable amount of lane space is vital to the residents of Alexandria who trust the Chinquapin pool to provide them an opportunity to get much needed exercise. Not only would allowing people and swim teams to use Chinquapin in the mornings free up space for other citizens in the afternoon, but exapnded lane availability also provides a large amount ofongoing revenue for the City of Alexandria - at a time when the City's finances face a great deal of strain and many services may be reduced or eliminated. Please take into consideration these points when you sign this petition. We thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
