J M Montgomerie started this petition to Alex Mahon Chief Executive of Channel 4

Much of the evening news on 6th June 2019 was dedicated to coverage of the D-Day commemorations in Normandy, and quite rightly so.

However, at several points – and in particular during an interview, repeated attempts were made to depict Brexit as some kind of contradiction of the aims of the Normandy invasion.  There were repeated references to Great Britain “leaving Europe”, which we are not – we are leaving the EU, which in any case only involves 27 out of the 50+ nations of Europe;  further, our departure from EU is in no way any kind of “unfriending” of Europe’s nations, as the presenters clearly implied on several occasions, but simply a separating of our political and financial arrangements (which have, by degree and largely by stealth, been tied together without our consent).

D-Day is nothing to do with Brexit, and so try to make is so is shameful and dishonourable.

We demand that Channel 4 News apologises for their disgraceful attempts to turn this respectful occasion into an opportunity for misleading political propaganda.
