Dear Aldine ISD School Board,
As a former student at Benjamin O. Davis Senior High School, I have preserve our traditional values as a district and have continuously kept our mission of producing the nation’s best by caring about my community through the best, good, bad, and worse times. Producing the nation’s best goes far beyond than just having strict and fair policies that keeps our students focus and in order. It takes comprehension, a good understanding, and applying the right resources on making sure that every single student is able to meet the requirements of our district policy. With that being said, I please ask the Aldine ISD School Board to vote on temporarily removing the dress code policy for the remainder of this school year due to the fact that some, if not most, of the students have lost their clothing, school supplies, shelter, or a family member. I ask y’all to get in their shoes and realize the difficult situation that some of these students are facing as victims of Hurricane Harvey. I am aware of all the consequences if a student refuses to follow Aldine ISD dress code policy. However, as of now when classes resume on September 5, 2017 no school should assume that a student is refusing to follow the dress code policy. This is not the time to make it harder for students to not attend school, but in fact is the time to assist, acknowledge, and understand every student’s situation. Freezing dress code policy will not give permission to students to dress inappropriately to school, but it will allow them to attend school without the possibility of facing any consequence. As a former Aldine ISD student and on behalf of all Aldine ISD students, I please ask you to freeze dress code policy for the remainder of this school year realizing that it might take even years for these students and their families to recover. Prove Aldine ISD students that y’all understand their situations and that their school district is willing to help and work along with them. Let's keep producing the nation’s best in Texas. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me through email at email@example.com.
