Stop Confining Hens in Cruel Cages!

Imagine an egg-laying hen confined in a tiny cage so small she can’t even spread her wings. She has less space than an iPad on which to eat, drink, sleep, and go to the bathroom. She’ll be virtually immobilized like this for her entire life.
Fortunately, most major food companies now refuse to use eggs from factory farms that treat hens in this cruel manner. However, one major company is trying to deceive consumers by prohibiting this cruel practice within its German supply chain while still allowing it in its United States subsidiary: Aldi. I am from Germany and I used to love shopping at Aldi. Now I live in the United States where Aldi continues to sell eggs from hens locked in these barbaric confinement devices. This is especially concerning because the major grocers in the U.S. such as Safeway, Albertsons, Food Lion, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, and others are going cage-free while Aldi has become an outlier by refusing to enact a similar policy.
Does an animal in the United States count less than one in Germany?
As an animal lover and volunteer of The Humane League, I can’t stand by and allow Aldi to rave about its animal welfare policies in my home country of Germany all the while it’s outsourcing the worst abuse in the United States. Please join me in calling on Aldi to make its U.S. operations 100% cage-free. All animals, including those outside of our own borders, deserve protection from Aldi's cruelty.
