“Chicago has so much excellent architecture that they feel obliged to tear some of it down now and then and erect terrible buildings just to help us all appreciate the good stuff.”

It's important to preserve historic buildings that contribute to the urban landscape and convey a sense of continuity and context. Today's replacement buildings are shoddy in construction and use imported Asian lumber that has been proven to admit pests like the Emerald ash borer into the U.S. It's not green to tear down serviceable, useful buildings built with quality materials and wonderful detailing!
