Playground for Parker (Englewood Elementary School Enhancement)

Playground for Parker (Englewood Elementary School Enhancement)
Why this petition matters

At the start of the 2019 - 2020 school year, Englewood opened a new high school on 68th and Normal (Englewood STEM High School). This school is a wonderful addition to the Englewood community; that offers new opportunities and resources for high school students. The planning and investments placed into this school provides the community with the ability to look forward to a greater future of endless possibilities. During the building process for this high school, the elementary school and early childhood center suffered as their environment and opportunities shifted. While these schools lack many resources and funding opportunities, they utilized the track and field available in collaboration with Robeson High School. After Robeson HS was removed, so was the opportunity for Parker Community Academy to utilize the track and field for outdoor sports (during construction). Not only did this change occur but the students were also required to deal with the day-to-day construction noises and inconveniences (dust, lack of space, padded areas, gated areas, etc.) The end result was a beautiful high school with resources that the elementary students can only observe. Although this is the case, the current administration of the new high school has been gracious enough to extend the outdoor resources to the Parker students when available. Our goal is to ensure that Parker Community Academy's students have a greater opportunity to take pride in the beautification of their school. We appreciate their ability to aspire to be apart of the Englewood STEM HS community. However, we feel that they deserve an addition to their school that meets the expectations set for the high school. Not only will the playground add to the school community but it will also enable the students to be more active during recess and play opportunities. Parker has lacked an efficient playground area that promotes fun, interaction, team-work, group play, and most importantly physical fitness. It is our duty to invest in the overall well-being of the community. We are seeking help and support to provide a foundational means of support for the elementary school and early childhood center in close perimeters of the Englewood STEM High School.
