This petition is in opposition of the proposed (Union West Project) at 935 W. Washington St. as we are looking to maintain the existing character and scale of low to mid-rise development in the West Loop.
- The developer has applied for a zoning change (DX-3 to a DX-5). This would allow them to build two 15 story buildings and one 1 story building along the streets of Madison, Sangamon, Washington and Monroe. The project includes 358 rental units (majority small studio units) and will be building only 196 parking spots for potential renters to lease.
- The proposed height, density and lack of sufficient parking will create several issues: the projects significant mass will only exacerbate the existing parking issue that exists in the West Loop and will add to and worsen the overall traffic congestion in the area. Additionally important sunlight will be restricted/diverted to many of the surrounding residential associations.
In joining this petition we ask that Alderman Solis, Chicago's Planning Commission and the Zoning Board to support the West Loop Associations/Residents Coalition in rejecting this project as it is currently proposed.
