Alden High School students love to cheer for their friends on the sports field. It’s upsetting that this is being negatively viewed and that students are being punished for this. Multiple students have been banned from coming to upcoming sporting events all because they want to support their team. Yes the cheering is loud and extensive, but isn’t that how it’s supposed to be? On top of all that, I’ve spoken with multiple soccer players who have admitted that the loud cheering is extremely encouraging and helpful on the field. It motivates the players and makes them feel better about the game they’re playing. They love that their classmates also have their backs on the field, providing a big crowd of dedicated, supportive fans. The students have promised to keep the negative comments to themselves and only cheer positive, uplifting things. Why is that wrong? Let us cheer! All of us!
