Everyone across the country has been impacted by various outcomes of the Covid-19 pandemic.  The most adversely affected by the public health emergency are our children who are being denied a quality education.  As private school families we are fortunate to have the ability to advocate for our children's education more so than in a public school setting.  This advocacy has become even more important in 2020 as the choice to send kids to in person school has become such a hot topic around the world.

In New Mexico the most recent change to the public health order called out private schools in particular to keep occupancy at 25%.  Conversely it was announced on August 27,2020 that the Pubic Education Department (PED) would begin to allow and encourage  public school districts to submit plans to reopen at 50% capacity. The secretary of Public Education stated on August 27,2020 at a press conference that 14 districts had submitted plans to reopen and they were currently under assessment.  One of those districts was Rio Rancho public schools that is set to re open on 09/08/2020.  In the PEDs guide to re opening (Guide can be found here https://www.newmexico.gov/education/ ) states many requirements are set to ensure schools are safe to open. The eight minimum requirements set forth by the PED have been met by The Albuquerque Academy.  In addition to the minimum 8 requirements public schools have to met to reopen The Academy has invested $750,00 in additional HAVAC upgrades, PPE and sanitation protocol .  No other school in the state has invested as much time and resources as the Albuquerque Academy has in ensuring a safe reentry to school.  Yet the public health order still states that private schools are only allowed to open at 25%?

Help the Albuquerque Academy advocate for our students to give them the same opportunity as every other student in the state to get back to school in person safely!
