Concerned Parent started this petition to Alberta Teachers Association (President)

As I put my kids through our public education system I have seen too many examples of the classroom being used to indoctrinate students with the political views of the teacher to stay quiet.  This happens in both overt and subtle ways on a frequent basis.  Teachers thrusting their personal political views on the developing minds of students is unprofessional and represents a breach of the social contract teachers have to teach kids “how” to think, not “what” to think.  In a healthy learning environment students should not be able to ascertain the personal political views of their teachers in or outside of the classroom.  I am asking:

- the ATA to update the Alberta Teachers Professional Code of Conduct to make it explicit that teachers leave their personal politics at the door when they walk into a publicly funded school.

- Professional Code of Conduct to be posted visibly at the entrance to every classroom

- Establish an independent office that students, parents, and teachers can report unprofessional conduct to without fear of reprisal
