Reform to how Children Services Investigates Abuse Claims

As we are all aware, there has been a horrific tragedy that has unfolded since April 21st and it has impacted this province. I am left wondering why this happened? After what happened with Baby Serenity I thought the government was implementing changes to protect other babies and children from abuse? I firmly believe that complaints of child abuse, child neglect and child abandonment should be THOROUGHLY investigated by all proper authorities and not dismissed until it is proved the child is truly safe. Surprise visits and inspections for up to 6 months after the complaints have been received. And up to a year for serious allegations. These babies do not ask to be born. We chose to bring them into this world, we MUST PROTECT them.
I am a child abuse survivor. I wish that someone would have spoke up for me when I was living that eleven years of hell. I also live with guilt every day for not charging my abuser when I was fourteen because it allowed him to get away with assaulting two other girls. But I did charge him later in life so that if those girls ever want to come forward my charges validate theirs.
I am a mother of four, a grandmother of three and an auntie to numerous nieces and nephews.I will no longer ignore injustices. I will be a voice for those who can't speak for themselves. It takes a community to raise a child, be their voice if you see they need help. Let's get this done. These senseless deaths are TOTALLY PREVENTABLE!
