Dear Sir/Madame;

   Re: New Sub-Category under PETS: LOST and FOUND”

On behalf of all Pet Owners, Rescuers, Fosters, Animal Control Services, and caring individuals who take-in lost pets, Alberta Lost Pet Locator (ALPL) is requesting that Kijiji create a 'Lost and Found Pets' sub-section within your Pets category. With over 200,000 pets missing annually in Alberta alone, our growing reliance on sites such as Kijiji can be better utilized with a defined area for Pets.

As a pet locator business owner, we list 'Lost and Found' pets using (Pet) Data-Based programs like Petlynx, Pet Harbour, Shelter Buddies, etc that are routinely utilized by Animal Control Services, and then cross-match Listings from Buy and Sell sites - with Kijiji being the largest contributor of free-listings in Alberta to-date.

We monitor Kijiji daily, but not always sure which area(s) those listings are supposed to be. We have used the COMMUNITY Category in 'Lost and Found', as well as the PETS Category in 'Dogs, Puppies For Sale', 'Cats, Kittens For Sale', 'Other Pets For Sale', 'To Give or Donate', and 'Others'. It is as equally confusing for a pet owner/finder, when listing a Pet.

With the growing costs associated with non-claimed Pets in our municipalities' Animal Control Services, Rescues and the like; this user-friendly approach of adding this sub-category would allow easy referencing for them, ALPL, and the general public resulting in fewer pets being unclaimed. Kijiji Canada could be instrumentally more effective in this process of reuniting Lost Pets with their Owners, if Lister’s had less ambiguous sub-sections to choose from.

So please kijiji lets make it easier for lost pets owners to be reunited with their beloved pets. We are therefore requesting one 'LOST and FOUND' sub-category under the heading PETS on behalf of all individuals and Services that rely on your site.

In closing, the philosophy of your Site is in its 'name' and its meaning: “the name 'kijiji' means “village” in Swahili. The name was chosen because it captures the essence of what we are creating – a site where people can connect with others in their community.”  With that in mind sometimes it takes people within a 'village' to encourage evolutionary Changes that make sense, in our opinion this one certainly does.

Yours Thoughtfully,

Letter to
