It is the right voice for many vulnerable children and adults. As well as those whom care and love family members that perhaps have no voice ☹️

The victims of crime deserve to get money from the fund to help them recover.
If this government steals this money It will destroy a much needed benefit program for victims. Just awful !!!

It is unacceptable for the UCP Government of Alberta to divert money that was collected through court ordered fines with the express purpose of supporting Crime Victims benefits and services and instead to use those funds to subsidize other government services even if those services themselves are crime related.

Prosecutors do very little for victims. In fact true crime victims often feel more victimized by the flawed criminal court system and need to be supported through that horrific process.

Police do what they can for victims but don't have the time, skills, or ability to support each and every victim all the way through the system and to help those victims find community supports when they are needed.

Dedicated victim services programs and benefits are the one and only effective means of ensuring that victims of crime receive at least some of the assistance they need in managing the consequences of the crimes committed against them and it is shameful that the UCP government would directly take money away from victims benefits and services to fund other branches of the criminal system that have been routinely underfunded and poorly supported by this and generations of previous Alberta governments.

More prosecutors and court staff are needed today because previous Conservative government cut positions throughout the court system. More police are needed today in rural Alberta because previous Alberta Conservative governments have cut other enforcement agencies and community services and have downloaded those responsibilities onto already understaffed policing units. Units that are often understaffed because the current and previous Alberta governments have failed to increase policing staffing levels to meet increases in regional population and crime rates or to meet increases in work loads created by new laws, poor court rulings, or other duties downloaded onto police by changes in government policy.

I don’t want to see militia groups formed in rural areas and funded by this money. Victims of crime need the support it provides.

As a victim of homicide and home invasion VSU was invaluable in their service. They helped navigate the justice system, provide support, and also inform me of my rights to complete a victim impact statement. VSU are there for victims in their most vulnerable times!

As a advocate for victims who already have a silenced voice. The government should be ashamed of themselves. This money is needed to keep support for victims of crime.
