Eco-Friendly Straws for Albany Mall

Plastic waste is a huge issue for our planet today. It covers a disgusting 40% of the oceans surface, and it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, by weight. This is detrimental to the health of the marine ecosystem among many other things. Despite recent positive changes such as the banning of plastic bags in New Zealand, we still have a long way to go to overcome this damage. We believe the next thing to target should be plastic straws, with an estimated 175 billion straws being used once and thrown away every single day. As we are just a small school organisation at the moment, we are starting locally, aiming our campaign at the banning of plastic straws in Albany Mall. This would hopefully take place over a period of 12-18 months, giving the businesses adequate time to come up with eco-friendly alternatives that work for them. One of our steps to put this change into place is this petition, and we need your help. Take 2 seconds out of your day to sign, and help us in our baby steps into making the world a better, cleaner place!
