We have located a building!!!

This petition is to help us convince the Albany County Legislature that this is the best use for this building. We need to create a space for people to go, where they can feel safe and a part of a community, and in return the community center will help people integrate back into the community by becoming productive members of society.

Friends of Recovery- Albany County & Second Chance Opportunities, Inc is trying to open a Recovery Community Center in the City of Albany NY.

There is a vacant building that has been abandoned by a previous not  for profit since 2008. We are trying to obtain the building to rehab it and open a Recovery Community Center in the heart of Albany. A Recovery Community Center will serve the Recovering Community of Albany County, and of course welcome anyone from surrounding communities.

The recovery center will offer ongoing support to anyone who is looking for treatment or family members trying to help their loved ones. Family members will also be able to receive support, for addiction is a disease that effects the whole family. The center will help bridge the gap between treatment and a life centered on recovery. We will continue to help put the pieces back together, with employment, education, job training, life skills, housing and support groups and we will provide a space for all the community self help groups as well.

But we also need a place were we can have social activities, where we can show and share the joy recovery brings not only to the person, but also their family and their community.

The building is centrally located and accessible by several different bus lines. It also has ample parking.

It is time Albany have a central location to represent the Recovering Community of Albany County!!
