Petition to
Alaskan Inuit

Why this petition matters

For over 50 years, we [Alaskan Inuit] have struggled with wildlife management regimes for our right to live our hunting culture and maintain our way of life, where management decisions are often made without us and far away from our homelands.

Over the last 3 years, the Alaskan Inuit Food Sovereignty Initiative brought our people together from across our four regions to build an Alaskan Inuit Food Sovereignty Management Action Plan. This process organized and unified our people to collectively move forward to secure access and management rights over our traditional food resources, to create long-term systematic and policy change that will advance our food sovereignty and benefit Inuit communities throughout the North Slope, Northwest Arctic, Bering Strait, and Yukon-Kuskokwim regions of Alaska.

Our Action Plan sets the foundation for us to collectively work toward our shared priorities to advance food sovereignty.

It is time we come together as Inuit and stand up for our hunting and fishing rights. It's time that decision-making for the management of our traditional food resources is brought home.
