Formal Review of Parking Permit Scheme in Park Road, Sittingbourne

The parking situation down Park Road, Sittingbourne and the surrounding streets is reaching a point whereby it's impossible to park within a 5 minute walk of your vehicle after 6pm or at all on a Sunday.

The need for a parking permit at the High Street end of the road disappears at 5pm Mon - Sat, we then get people using the street as a free for all for the High Street pubs, restaurants and hotel and there is nowhere for those who live here to park. On a Sunday there is no need for a permit and the no stopping restriction is lifted on the opposite side of the road meaning that the entire street and surrounding roads resemble a car par as people abandon their vehicles wherever is most convenient for them.

Our proposal is a formal review of the scheme, with a view to increase the times that permits are required until 10pm, 7 days a week, as is the case in Gillingham. This will enable residents to park nearby their houses after working hours and at weekends. With the planned building on the local carparks, and regeneration bringing more reasons to be in the town centre after 6pm we feel that this review should be carried out as soon as possible.
