Why this petition matters

Dolly Parton has been a staple of the south and country music since 1967. That is 53 years. She is enjoyed by many around the world and in the US and represents a lovely part of southern culture and US culture. On the other hand, the Confederacy was around for 5 years and did more harm than good. In the US and worldwide they are a sign of slavery and the oppression of Black people. They also lost the civil war and are remembered as villains while Dolly Parton is known as one of the biggest names in the music and country music industry and I feel is a much better representation of southern values .
The reason I feel that Dolly is a better representation of the south today is that she is a symbol of the south. She started off in the mountains in Tennessee with a very hard life and worked to have a estimated net worth of 800 million US dollars. Her story is very much like the post civil war south in the way that she started off with nothing much like the south did after the war other than a broken reputation and honor. Though neither of those thing stopped us nor did it stop her. Dolly today has many attractions in Gatlinburg, pigeon forge, and Sevierville  Tennessee. That is where she grew up and she has now brought in a year long stream of revenue for the people and land that gave her life and support. Dolly Parton is not only a famous singer but is also a symbol of strength and determination that the south has and needs to promote instead of our past.
