My name is Gwendolyn Haney and I am president of the resident council as well as the reigning 2019 Ms. Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Geneva, Alabama. The request we have is to ask you for your help in obtaining an increase in monthly personal needs allowance for residents who reside in an Alabama Nursing Home. Currently the allowance is only $30 a month. This allowance is hardly enough for us to provide ourselves with basic daily needs such as hygiene products, sodas, sweet treats and other essential items that we may need or want in order to maintain a decent quality of life in our later years. Similar facilities in neighboring states are allotted as much as five times that amount. Mississippi residents are allotted $44, Tennessee residents are allotted $50, Georgia residents are allotted $70, and Florida residents are allotted $130 in their personal needs allowance fund. While we are not demanding the highest amount we are simply seeking a raise in order to be able to keep up with rising costs, as we have not had a raise in this allowance in 30+ years.

Sincerely, Gwen "Granny Haney"
