Why this petition matters

Started by Black Hippie

As the U.S. collectively moves forward to reform, decriminalize, or even go as far as providing reparations for discriminative marijuana laws. ALABAMA is still upholding, enforcing, and profiting off old, outdated, & life destroying marijuana laws. People like John Boehner, former speaker of the United States House of Representatives was, “Unalterably Opposed to the legalization of marijuana.”  Which he wrote a constituent in 2011. Since his retirement from office in 2015, Boehner has joined the board of Acreage Holding, a publicly traded cannabis company based in New York. (Acreage Holding was bought by a Canadian based company for $3.4 Billion in 2018.) So while ex-House Representative Boehner was stepping into the next chapter of his illustrious career, Quartz(qz.com) reported more than 400,000 people were stepping into jail cells for marijuana sales or trafficking from 2011-2015. Our fathers, mothers, and children are losing time, money, and future potential entrepreneurial endeavors because we are still being criminalized in an unjust penal system.

As of July2020 there are 42 states (including neighboring state Mississippi), who have medically legalized or decriminalized the use or possession of marijuana. While our beloved state of Alabama remains 1 of 8 states that continue to deliberately ignore or stall the inevitable (the legalization of marijuana.)

Do you think you deserve compassion? Well the Compassion Act/ SB-165 still sits, waiting to be voted upon. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousand Alabamians continue to suffer or even die from treatable ailments. Such as:                                 Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), PTSD, Alzheimer, Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, HIV/AIDS, Arthritis, Epilepsy, High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease  and many more.

Help me & the Great citizens of Alabama demand our “Essential Workers,” elected officials even through this pandemic (Covid-19) to:

*Get Compassion Act/ SB-165 passed and enacted into law.

*Get Marijuana Laws Decriminalized
