Tsiotenhariio Herne started this petition to akwesasne convenience store association and

Skekon my name is Tsiotenhariio Herne a young mother of a strong daughter, I want to do anything in my power to make sure that she can have fresh clean air to breathe, clean crisp water to drink, nutritious foods to fuel her body and land that has green grass that tickles her toes, so I ask you how much do you care for our future generations? With the growing movement to care for our mother the earth, we as a community of Onkwehon:we can lead the charge by banning single-use plastics/styrofoam on our reserve. It's important to switch to alternatives because when we buy plastic it stays on this earth longer than humans' life expectancy. Plastic is basically forever and if we can stop buying plastic made products, big corporations who produce single-use plastics will have fewer sales which means less production of plastic, in turn, means less waste in landfills and on our mother earths back. We are land protectors and water protectors so in order to hold true to who we say we are as Onkwehon:we the practice of stopping the purchase of single-use plastic can be brought to the forefront of our consciousness within our homes and communities. We will help not only the mother earth but the future generations who have to live with the environmental messes we leave behind.

As NYS bans plastic bags on this day of March 1st, 2020, as a young mother in our community I send a strong plea to all our convenience stores, restaurants, schools, and organizations to follow suit and to go even further by purchasing alternative products like compostable take-out containers, compostable cups, compostable utensils, and many more. if you would like to further the change in consciousness I ask you to start small by investing in alternatives in your own home or when traveling like a bamboo toothbrush instead of plastic, a tin take-out container, a reusable coffee cup/water bottle, metal silicone or bamboo straw instead fo plastic, bringing your own utensils, swapping out toothpaste in a tube for toothpaste tablets, swapping out soaps for bars of soap, refilling your laundry detergent and dish soap instead of buying a new bottle every time, etc... there are multiple things we as humans in our everyday lives to prevent from further damaging our mother and that power is in your hands today!

As a collective in support of the movement, we are stronger when we do it together.
