We demand Dutch intelligence services to stop intimidating peaceful (climate) activists. [Nederlandse vertaling hieronder]

Recently, it was discovered that Dutch intelligence services are trying to recruit informants among climate activists and local politicians (read this article in NRC, and another one). Undercover police do this by following people to their work, sending letters and visiting them at home. During these unexpected visits, the officers made clear that they knew everything about them, and that their social media were being followed.

Not only are they collecting information: they intimidate young activists. By doing so, they create fear and paranoia within the growing climate protest movement.

These tactics are unacceptable in a free democratic society. Our movement never endangers people and is transparent about its actions. Everyone has the right to protest.

We activists show our solidarity and support each other. No matter your background, you are one of us. Do not hesitate to talk and ask for help.

Wij eisen dat Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten stoppen met het intimideren van (klimaat)activisten.

Recentelijk werd bekend dat Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten proberen informanten te werven onder klimaatactivisten en locale politici. (lees dit artikel in NRC, en een andere). Geheim agenten en politie in burger doen dit door mensen naar hun werk te volgen, brieven te sturen en ze thuis te bezoeken. Tijdens deze onverwachte ontmoetingen maken de agenten duidelijk dat ze alles over je weten, en dat ze je sociale media in de gaten houden.

Ze verzamelen niet alleen informatie: ze intimideren jonge klimaatactivisten. Hiermee creëren ze angst en paranoïa binnen de groeiende klimaatbeweging.

Deze tactieken zijn onacceptabel in een vrije democratische samenleving. Onze beweging brengt nooit mensen in gevaar en is transparant over acties. Iedereen heeft het recht om te protesteren.

Wij activisten tonen onze solidariteit en steunen elkaar. Je bent een van ons, ongeacht je achtergrond. Twijfel niet om te praten en om hulp te vragen.
