It is very important to name it after Mr.JRD Tata because surprisingly, none of the airports in India are named after him. He was the father of Indian aviation, and what would be a befitting tribute than to name an international airport after him? The Tatas share a deep bond with Nagpur. Their most successful venture of the 19th century was at Nagpur, that is the Empress Mills. So, it would be, but natural, to name the upcoming airport after him. Already, in our country, most of the airports are named after the sons of the state, political figures, religious figures or historical figures. Please note, "airports" have been named after "these" people, when actually, aviation was started in India by Mr.JRD Tata! JRD has contributed the most for Indian aviation. He obtained the first pilot license.in India in February 1929 (see photograph). Right from Tata Air Service in 1932, which became Tata Airlines, which was renamed Air India in 1946, and nationalised in 1953, JRD was very attached to aviation, and dedicated his life to aviation and Air India. He worked for Air India as its Chairman from 1953, after the nationalisation, to 1977, when he was unceremoniously removed by the government then, and then from 1980 to 1989. He did not charge a single rupee for it, he worked selflessly for the dream which he was realising everyday. Aviation scaled new heights as JRD worked towards making it the World's Best Airline (please note- Air India, under JRD, had received th Best Airline Medal from the IATA). So, it is our duty to sign this petition, keeping in mind a rich legacy of a man, who loved Aviation so much, and his country all the more.
