Airlines should include candidates with visible tattoos

Airlines should include candidates with visible tattoos
Why this petition matters

In today's bustling world of global diversity, one industry stands out that refuses to embrace a modern culture of inclusion: careers in aviation and candidates with visible tattoos. On nearly every airline career site, under many job descriptions you will find a version of, "Must adhere to uniform standards and guidelines with no tattoos or body art visible at any time while in uniform. Examples of visible tattoo locations include, but are not limited to, hands, arms, neck, and face".
Why is this important? The aviation industry supports 65.5 million jobs around the world and supports $2.7 trillion (3.6%) of the world's gross domestic product (GDP). If aviation were a country, it would rank 20th in size by GDP.
According to Key Tattoo Statistics in 2022, over half of all Americans under 40 years old have tattoos. Over 145 million Americans have tattoos. Women who have tattoos outnumber men who have tattoos by 18%. Millennials represent 41% of all people with tattoos. And this is just America!
Countries in Europe dominated the list of countries with the most inked population, namely Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and France, among others, having between 35% to 48% of the total population with ink.
Italy – 48% of the total population
Sweden – 47% of the total population
Australia – 43% of the total population
Argentina – 43% of the total population
Spain – 42% of the total population
Denmark – 41% of the total population
United Kingdom – 40% of the total population
Brazil – 37% of the total population
France – 36% of the total population
Germany – 36% of the total population
Greece – 35% of the total population
It is time for the airline industry to reform their "visual standards" and allow candidates with visible tattoos to be considered for jobs that they currently would be excluded from. If you agree and support this appeal for change, please sign this petition and help us let those with executive power know - it's time to allow your companies to represent millions of people out there who fly with their airline, everyday. It is time for them to follow Virgin Atlantic's example and change their policies!
Thank you!
