Carbon offset programs should not be optional to the purchaser when buying an airline ticket.
The airline industry is one of the largest polluters of carbon into the atmosphere, but at this point carbon offsets programs are optional for all people who are travelling by air. I believe if airlines are aware of the amount of carbon they produce daily, weekly, yearly, then offset programs should be factored into the price of a ticket to the consumer, it should not be optional.
When you purchase an airline ticket there are multiple taxes and charges that are built into the price, so why is the carbon offset program not? To purchase the carbon offset if travelling short distance within Australia is approximately $2 per ticket, internationally around $50.
So I am urging you all to sign this petition and help me get 10,000 signatures. Please forward it on to your friends, colleagues everyone. We all love our planet, but each and every one of us has a part to play in making businesses stand up and be counted, authentic and put more substance into programs like the Carbon Offset Program.
My personal mission is to call these airlines and aviation bodies to be accountable, thank you for helping me!
