Anonymous Student started this petition to AHA Administration

Our school has been advocating students' well-being since before I have even stepped foot into AHA. The administration is always open to help, but the previous year has been very different. Ending my sophomore year in "Covid times" was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever done. There was no consideration for kids who's parents are in hospitals, kids who cannot join zooms because of abusive households or just different family situations. There was no empathy for mental health that takes over many students' lives including many girls at AHA.

Since the start of Junior year, the school schedule has been abnormal. It changes a lot and that effects the school life style of students. Us students were given an entire academic school year in a global pandemic where our work was doubled, tests were doubled, and GPA was made as the #1 factor to get into college and every single teacher just piled that onto us out of no where. We could have been given a break. If our school days are shortened like before winter break, there could be more time for extracurricular activities instead of just staring at a screen all day. We need less tolerance for mistakes and more humanity in school administration. These past few months, admin has shown the students of AHA that they are capable of many things, but caring for the mental health and well-being of their students is not their top priority when tuition always comes first.

An average number of hours in a school day is around 6.64 hours. Our school days last for a little longer than 7 hours which is above average. But those 7 hours were spent very differently before Covid. These 7 hours had productivity where students had hands-on learning and were able to learn from looking at someone in the eyes. Now we stare at a screen and our attention is most likely focused on other things. Our learning has turned into memorizing and forgetting. Also, the grading system that AHA uses is completely messed up. Most of the teachers just care about putting good grades in and not wanting us to learn. When we had the week of school days that ended at 12, I was more focused, learned more, and was able to finish all of my homework by 2 pm. Days like this are much more productive than the draining 7 hours that we stare at the laptop and learn nothing. The technique is nothing against the teachers, but the people in charge of the teachers who are creating these techniques. The schedule and administration must do better in order to create smart young women who will be prepared for their futures.
