1.6% of children ages 12-17 get raped. 1 In 4 girls and 1 in 13 guys experience child sexual abuse. Children do not comprehend what is going on and are not able to give informed consent to the situation as a child when I was around 6 my older cousin who’s 2 years older than me raped and sexually harassed me a few times for 5 years. I would scream and cry and have no idea what was going on. When I reached out to a counselor they asked if I wanted to press charges without informing or asking for my moms opinion. Since I did not press charges against him  he is living his life in peace and maybe even going around and doing it to my other cousins and his friends. There was no lesson learned. A child who dose not understand the situation should not be the one deciding if they want to press charges, and later on if they choose not press changed they live with hate and trauma in their soul. I have been seeking therapy and help about this but my therapist say he didn’t know what he was doing and to get over it but how do you get over something that traumatized you? Future generations should not feel alone in this situation  they should feel supported and safe. No matter the age, rape is rape.
