Spring ISD is forcing teachers to remove all "food prep items" and other specific electronics, i.e., microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, space heaters, etc. from their classrooms and closets. As teachers, we spend a LOT of time at school (many of them outside "normal" school hours) and these comforts allow us to have a "home away from home" that incentivize us to do our jobs to the best of our abilities. Taking these items away from teachers will ultimately lead to: taking the basic comfort out of our classrooms (and personal spaces), even shorter lunches due to having to wait in longer lines at the community microwaves and refrigerators, and the loss of personal items from theft (inevitable in situations such as these). This new mandate is not only a disregard of a teacher's basic needs in the work space, but will ultimately lead to severely disgruntled employees, impacting their contentment in their positions and, unfortunately, their relationships with their students.
