U of A: REFUND Spring 2020 tuition, housing & meal plans due to COVID.
U of A: REFUND Spring 2020 tuition, housing & meal plans due to COVID.
My daughter started U of A last year, before covid. Since we weren’t able to attain student loans we literally paid for almost everything ourselves (plus a few very nice relatives...). We were just so thrilled to have our first university attendee in the family!
FACTS:
- U of A closed it’s campus during spring break 2020 (due to Covid) giving students and parents 4 days notice to pick up their things and go.
- My daughter was prohibited in going back to her dorm room in spring 2020 at U of A.
- My daughter wasn’t able to spend spring 2020 semester in her dorm room.
- My daughter was not able to use her 2020 meal plan because the school was closed.
- My daughter spent spring 2020 semester at home (San Clemente, CA) with us 24/7 studying online - not in a classroom in Tucson Arizona.
- My daughter took self led classes online, without instruction.
- The expensive study books we had to buy for 2nd semester were not needed since their were no classes to be held.
- Teachers were not able to teach.
- U of A didn’t allow any students or parents back to campus (outside of picking up their belongings/making a 2 day trip in doing so) since March 5, 2020.
My daughter (only her name/parents not included) just received a collection letter from “Williams and Fudge” for $10,426.75. It’s for the semester my daughter was told she couldn’t live, eat or study at UA due to it’s closure. I know there’s a lot of parents suing the university but I’d prefer not to litigate if possible. I’m bent/determined to find an advocate for this issue (one that millions of people have!!!) and always expect to be successful.
I want U of A to do the right thing; to stop collection action immediately. My daughter is a 4.0 student, is eager to learn and is accomplished for her age. She doesn’t deserve a Collection Account, that’s ridiculous. My gal is the Chief Marketing Officer of a non profit foundation/501c3 at 19 and has a paid internship with a major Ad Agency. Unfortunately a lot of teenagers in dorms want to party-party-party but she keeps her nose to the grindstone, at all times. Since then she’s transferred to a college closer to home (quarantining reasons) and like other universities is learning 100% remotely.
I’m pleading with the powers that be: PLEASE give us some grace or latitude...like the SBA or government did for the you/the University of Arizona, with all the Covid Relief funding the school received. “Due unto others”? U of A wouldn’t have been able to operate OR function w/out having received relief assistance, so wouldn’t proper thing/The Right Thing To Do be... to pay it forward? By retracting/backing out the invoicing for a non existent 2nd spring semester??
