AG Garland: Consequences for Donald Trump and co-conspirators.
Why this petition matters

Dear Attorney General Garland:
We, as non-partisan citizens, can only hope that the reason you have not brought charges against former President Trump and those who have supported and advanced his lies and his continued manipulation of the American people, is that you are waiting to have proven evidence for a strong case.
It is extraordinary to charge a former president and sitting Congressmembers with crimes of fraud, conspiracy, sedition, and, at the very least, failure to act. From our perspective, however, it appears that the extraordinary behavior of Trump and his supporters requires consequences.
We are ordinary citizens who have had faith in our way of governing. We believe we need dialogue between the left and the right of political ideology, that the free discourse of ideas is a cornerstone of democracy, and that it tends to moderate our political decisions away from the extremes of both positions. This exchange has been corrupted by the lies perpetrated and continuing to be told by former President Trump and his allies, along with the general coarsening of public discourse and the covert suggestions that violence is appropriate to further political aims.
We are frustrated by the lack of consequences for what anyone can see is an attack on the rule of law in our nation. We understand justice in this case could cause civil unrest by some followers of Trump. That should not deter justice and consequences.
According to your official statement, the Department of Justice is dedicated to upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting the civil rights of all Americans. If this statement is really true, then we do not see how you cannot bring charges, for Trump’s actions have violated every precept of that statement. We will be greatly disappointed, disillusioned, and disheartened citizens who can no longer have faith in our democracy if charges are not brought forward.
Sincerely,
