Award Fremantle the AFLW Premiership for 2020

Following the decision today to cancel the AFLW Finals and the disgraceful decision to not award a premiership, we believe that a premiership should be awarded to the Fremantle Football Club.

Coach Trent Cooper, his assistants, and all the sensational players have put in a mountain of work to set the high standards that they have been able to achieve over the course of the season.

Throughout the 2020 AFLW Season, the Fremantle Football Club was the only team to remain unbeaten at the end of the regular season as adjudicated by the AFL after Round 6 with a 6-0 record. In addition, we won the Semi-Final against Gold Coast 80-10. The 3 remaining teams in the finals (North Melbourne, Carlton, and Melbourne) have all lost at least 1 game during the course of the season.

Given that Fremantle have a 7-0 record including the first final while the other teams left have lost at least 1 game, it is therefore logical that the club is awarded the premiership as a reward for the season that they had. Sporting integrity says that Fremantle should be awarded the premiership and it is imperative that Gil McLachlan and the rest of the AFL Commission use integrity and commonsense to make the only logical decision available to it. Anything less than a Fremantle premiership compromises the integrity of the sport as we know it and could turn people off in disgust at the lack of leadership on show.
