Affirmative Action- STOP DISCRIMINATION

Affirmative Action- STOP DISCRIMINATION
The Issue
Imagine you are an Asian student who were into a well-established Asian American family. Your parents are both first-generation immigrants who build up their own careers in America from scratch. Your mother is a doctor and your father is a lawyer. They have very high expectations on you. As the only child in your family, you were sent to private schools from K1. You study full-day at school and go to Chinese classes after class. Every weekend, you attend piano and sports classes. You never sleep before 11pm in high school. You are a straight A student and get perfect score in you SAT. You are quite confident about your college application. However, it turns out that universities have to take race and ethnicity into consideration in the application process, which means you have to compete with mostly your Asian peers rather than your classmates. The implementation of Affirmative Action completely changes your plan, and most probably your future.
Affirmative action may easily lead to reverse discrimination. Discrimination against certain minority groups in the past cannot become reasons to justify the current discrimination against non-minorities. According to the laws of the United States of America, everyone is equal and deserves to be treated accordingly. Under Affirmative Action, some minority groups, such as Asian students, are not treated equally. Their opportunities to attend prestigious universities and colleges are limited. Even though many of them outperform their peers in academic performance, they still cannot get admitted due to Affirmative Action. The increase of certain minority groups in top institutions means the decrease of other groups.
