Over the last number of years, thousands of Irish people have emigrated from the west of Ireland to America, Australia, Canada and many other countries. However, in order for them to return back to Ireland they are forced to fly into Dublin or Shannon Airport. This is mainly due to people not being able to connect via a major airport hub such as Heathrow to Knock Airport. In addition to this, many tourists coming to Ireland who wish to see the west of Ireland and what it has to offer, are unable to fly directly into the heart of the west at Knock because there is no easy way of connecting from America or mainland Europe. A Heathrow-Ireland West Knock route would open up many options for people travelling to the west of Ireland and would have the potential to bring more tourists to the area.
