We demand that more and consistent education on LGBT issues be implemented for middle and high school students in Newton Public Schools. This should be taught with an emphasis on personal connections (understanding how what we do and say affects people) and how we can support one other regardless of how you identify. It should also teach the history of the movement, why it is important, and how to be an ally today rather than a bystander. 

Changing the attitudes and mindsets of adults who are set in their ways is very difficult, but children, especially younger ones, are much more impressionable and open to new ideas if they are presented with them. By targeting education we hope to build a more inclusive community that will fight injustice and discrimination against our LGBT students in Newton.
