Advocate for a Regulated Reintegration Program in the New River Valley

Advocate for a Regulated Reintegration Program in the New River Valley
Why this petition matters
Recidivism is defined as "a person's relapse into criminal behavior" (NIJ). Recidivism affects everyone in a community, including civilians, law enforcement, parole officers, correctional officers, and the court system. There are many issues that factor into WHY offenders reoffend, including financial issues, mental health issues, housing, peer association, and drug addiction. With the addition of a regulated program in the NRV, we would be able to increase the quality of life for both offenders and the community. This program would provide assistance with reintegration, outreach to accessible services, provide a mentor for convicts, and ensure they have proper assistance and access to the resources they need to be successful upon release. In addition to these services, the program would also require offenders to adhere to strict guidelines, including drug tests. With the addition of a regulated program, offenders would have access to more resources to make the reintegration process easier, in turn lowering recidivism rates among our community.
