Isaiah King started this petition to The Equal Employment Oportunity Commision

There is a need for reform of Title-VII. The fact that many people losing their jobs over attributes that in no way affects their ability to do a job is absurd. Countless numbers of black women have lost their jobs because of their hair and time after time again the employer receives no punishment. This paper has outlined two solutions to this problem. The easier solution would be to remove the word “texture” in the operational definition of what constitutes as "race." This solution would allow the EEOC to finally use race as a reason for hair discrimination to be illegal. The more difficult answer would be to create an entirely new category that protects against cultural inconsideration. This solution would take more time to get passed but if passed would not only help black people but any person with strong ties to their culture. There is a need for change. How can we call ourselves a progressive nation when we allow jobs to be taken away because of the way someone’s hair looks? We are better than that.
