Why this petition matters

This advocacy aims to remove the Australian citizenship requirement for access homelessness shelter beds in New South Wales. By doing this, we will create a more equitable system to address the needs of houseless people. through this advocacy campaign we aim to confront the mechanisms of social control to restore social justice, promoting individual and community well-being.

Additionally, this will ensure article 25 of the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights is implemented. It states that "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control" (United Nations, 2022, July 6th).
