Jakob Teneti started this petition to Advertising Standards Authority and

Nau mai, haere mai e te whānau.

There is currently an Anti-Vaccination billboard standing in Ōtāhuhu on State Highway One, before the Princes Street off-ramp as you head towards South Auckland. The billboard depicts a man with a Tā moko holding a baby, with the words, “If you knew the ingredients in a vaccine, would you RISK it?" written alongside it. The location and design of this billboard has the purpose of sending a damaging and incorrect message to an at-risk population.

The group responsible for this billboard is Warnings About Vaccine Expectations New Zealand (WAVESNZ), and although it has been confirmed that this Billboard will be removed, it is believed that this is the first advertisement of a whole month worth of anti-vaccination propaganda.

The advertisement itself attacks children’s right to be healthy and is in clear violation of the codes and standards of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), such as:

Children and young people's advertising code
- Advertisements targeted at children or young people must not contain anything that is likely to result in their physical, mental or moral harm and must observe a high standard of social responsibility.

Therapeutic and health advertising code
- Advertisement should contain information to encourage responsible recommendation.
- Advertisements should not portray unrealistic outcomes or prey on vulnerable audiences
- Advertisements should not be misleading

Solution:

This petition aims to remove and prevent any anti-vaccination propaganda or advertisement in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland City), New Zealand.

Vaccinations are the most effective way to protect our tamariki from horrible diseases such as whooping cough, measles and hepatitis B; they have saved millions of lives and no valid studies have been done to prove that vaccinations have any negative side-effects.

The benefits of vaccinations for New Zealand as country and the world as a whole is huge, thus propaganda like this is incorrect, misinformed and dangerous as it encourages whānau to put their tamariki at risk.

Therefore we are not only in support of the immediate removal of the current Anti-Vaccination Billboard on State Highway One, but we are also advocating for the prevention of further Anti-Vaccination advertisements by WAVENZ and similar groups. This is a kaupapa we must all support in order to prevent the subsequent harm and damage that these messages may cause to our whānau and tamariki.

By signing this petition you are helping to ensure that the truth and health of our people will prosper.
