Advertisers: STOP financing toxic Fox News now

There is no mistaking that our country is in peril today from a great many factors. One of the most ominous of those factors is the racial and political divide that has been widening for years. At the very center of this divide is none other than Fox News.  If advertisers and brands are not willing to acknowledge this, and to do something both substantial and long term about it, then very soon we must stop supporting the brands and advertisers that support Fox. Remember, one main reason that the Civil Rights Movement was so effective and able to bring about such sweeping positive change was primarily because of economics: boycotts. Today, we have a yet another opportunity to bring about sweeping positive change, as did the Civil Rights Movement, through economics.
 
For years now, Fox News has been propagating lies, conspiracy theories and some of the most savagely bigoted ideas that lead only one place: to division of the population, tearing the very fabric and unity of this nation to shreds.  We have not just an opportunity but also an obligation to put an end to this by making it crystal clear to brands and advertisers: if they don’t cease funding Fox’s toxic insanity with advertising dollars, these brands and advertisers will lose our dollars. This starts with giving brands and advertisers the option to cease spending with Fox, or we’ll cease spending with them.
 
Yes, at the forefront of the bigoted ideas, lies and conspiracy theories coming from Fox are some very well known names: Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingram and Sean Hannity to name a few.  And yes, recently, many advertisers have begun to pull advertising spend from Tucker Carlson’s show. But for how long?  Temporary ad spend freezes for one single segment or show are not nearly enough.  To pull advertising spend from one single show does very little at all to stem the habitual and systemic problem of promoting bigotry and lies at Fox.  It’s not just the so-called superstars of Fox behind all of this.  It’s the network in general.  One only needs to watch their nightly news segments, Fox & Friends and so forth, to see that the problem is much bigger than any one person at Fox. The problem at Fox is systemic.  It is time for this to end.
 
The entire Fox network needs to be held not just to account, but to the proverbial fire of no longer being to rely on advertising dollars. The economic pain needs to become so intense that it is no longer profitable for them continue down the dark, twisted path we have all witnessed over the last few years. This is the only way to force essential, sweeping change at a major network that seems hellbent on contributing to the erosion of race relations in the United States. 
 
The message is simple: for the sake of this nation, if brands and advertisers don’t cease supporting Fox with advertising dollars for the foreseeable future, then we shall stop supporting those very same brands and advertisers, in unison.  Period. Now is the time for brands and advertisers to make an executive decision on which side of history they choose to stand. We must show them the light.
