Why this petition matters

There has been an increased need for healthcare providers in the medical setting over the recent years to assist in acute care due to the pandemic and shortage of hospital staffing. We are sending this petition around the state of Iowa to demonstrate the willingness of the Chiropractic profession to advance their scope of practice to assist with this high demand in care. The recent pandemic demonstrated Iowa's healthcare facilities to have limited access of care in both rural and urban settings, leaving individuals unable to get appropriate care in a timely manner.  There are many healthcare professions in this country that have advanced their scope of practice; including Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners and their affiliates, Doctors of Physical Therapy, Doctors of Naturopathic medicine, and emergency services to name a few. The Chiropractic Profession proudly boasts 4400+ hours in healthcare education similar to current allopathic hours of education required by an fully accredited college of higher educational learning, BUT perform a limited scope of practice.

We propose legislation permit the Chiropractic profession to obtain increased hours of education as means of gaining certification to; 1. order prescription medication, 2. perform intramuscular injections, intra-articular injections,  and arthrocentesis, 3. intravenous infusions for patient care. This certification achievement would be similar to advancing current scope of practice within the Chiropractic profession like;  obtaining an Acupuncture certification, or Diplomate of Neurology, Pediatrics, Sports, and Radiography. Allowing this certification would reduce referral rates, increased access of care for acute care, and reduce demand on hospital staffing. Sign today to show Iowa legislators you support the advancement in the Chiropractic profession.
