Because education should be taught objectively and truthfully about our past and not white wash the historical and current systems of oppression that exist in our society.

Adding Black History is essential to the curriculum to create knowledge, respect and understanding the contributions of Black People in Canada and all the obstacles they have and currently face because of racism. It needs to include that has a history of slavery and how that is tied in with current racism, micro aggression all the way to police brutality and how it affects duration and career opportunities for Black Canadians and New Black Immigrants. It helps educate children who are the future and helps to keep Albertans and Canadians accountable.

Only learning about white history is just another way that they are trying to show that white people are better

I wish I had this added to my curriculum in school in the 90s.

Children learn the diverse history of our country, the good and bad. We can't really learn about Canada without sharing the past, present and future of black, indigenous, and people of colour in Canada.

I believe black history is important and bringing awareness to people of all races about our history will go a long way in them learning and understanding our struggle.

I believe education is the only thing that can save this country. White people need to be taught the truth and take responsibility for the state of this country and black people deserve to learn their history and begin to heal.
