Require Shreveport Police Officers to have Body Cameras

This petition made change with 32,872 supporters!

In February of 2019, a Shreveport police officer was placed on leave for their involvement in the shooting of Anthony Childs. This incident has raised the need for body cameras on Shreveport police officers. Since the death of George Floyd, and countless others, it's increasingly important that there is proper documentation should situations escalate.

The benefits of police body cameras center around more transparency, civility, and even possible training benefits to future recruits. These body cams can also be used to corroborate evidence in potential future conflicts. [1]

Studies have found that the use of body cams lead to less use-of-force incidents and "have [a] strong potential to benefit police agencies and communities alike." [2]

Other potential steps Shreveport could take to decrease potential police brutality could be enforcing de-escalation training.

We would like the local Shreveport government to begin requiring body cams, or to announce how it plans to make its citizens feel safer.
