The Covid-19 pandemic has overwhelmed healthcare in many parts of the world causing immense suffering and death. It has been clearly shown that the key to controlling and reducing its impact is physical isolation and distancing....staying at home.

In BC we are now at a key juncture where individual action will decide how widespread and how quickly infection will spread. Even though many people are co-operating with government and health reccomendations to isolate at home, some people still seem to feel that these requirements do not apply to them, and continue to travel regardless of the risk they create for others.

Coastal BC, Vancouver Island, the southern Gulf Islands and the Sunshine Coast have been inundated with tourists, vacationers and non-residents who disregard the safety requests of government, health officials and residents of these areas.

Many of the rural communities in these areas have large elderly and disabled populations at high risk, limited medical facilities and services, and limited essential supplies. If infection is brought into these communities the results will be devestating for the local population.

In order to ptotect these vulnerable communities and slow the spread of Covid-19, we request that Min. Adrian Dix and Officer Bonnie Henry mandate BC Ferries to restrict services to residents, essential services and cargo only for the duration of the pandemic.
