Have you noticed that Salem has experienced an increase in deaths and serious injuries on our roads?

These are our friends and neighbors that are being seriously effected. And I know that you have probably experienced close calls and perhaps crashes yourself.

No one deserves to lose their lives in our City in a preventable death.

Vision Zero is a global movement that declares that traffic deaths and serious injuries are unacceptable. And we have the power to do something about it. By using a systems approach - recognizing that people make mistakes and that they are vulnerable and that we should design streets with safety for all in mind. We should have a plan for changing our roadways (often for very little money!) to help do this.

This approach started in Sweden, but has spread all over the world. Salem should join our neighbors in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville by adopting this vision.

Salem, Massachusetts is a progressive leader in so many areas. We should be a leader in preventing traffic deaths and serious injuries too.

Let our leaders know that you want them to adopt a Vision Zero approach - no lives should be lost when we can do something about it.
