Sadly there has been a bill introduced (SB 196) to terminate the WV Massage Therapy Licensure Board. If this bill passes, it will allow unprofessional, untrained, and unqualified persons to conduct massage therapy legally. This would allow someone with no knowledge in massage therapy to work with individuals that are recovering from injuries, surgeries, cancer, pregnancy, and more. Many of WV massage therapy practitioners work in the health care industry. Without the Licensure requirements, these jobs would no longer exist. This puts the WV public at risk and puts other WV people out of work. This is only giving a black eye for the state of West Virginia on a State and National Level.
The WV Massage Therapy Licensure Board has the oversight to investigate any and all allegations of human trafficking, sex trade, and dangerous practices throughout the state of WV. PLEASE voice your concerns by calling, writing letters, lobbying, etc. and vote against this bill.
The Massage Therapy Board formed in 1997, to be responsible for assuring the appropriate conduct and proper education of all practicing professional massage therapists in the state of West Virginia. Governing oversight is necessary in the field of Massage Therapy. Laws, requirements, and standards need to be set in place to protect our community and the people of West Virginia.
To protect the health, safety and welfare to the public and to ensure standards of competency, it is HIGHLY NECESSARY to require a professional massage license of those engaged in the practice of massage therapy. PLEASE voice your concerns to our state legislature. This bill will be voted on soon so act fast!
