‘Don’t say gay’ petition, GA

‘Don’t say gay’ petition, GA
what is this bill?
The new “Don’t say Gay” bill has been drafted and is being proposed in Georgia. There has been an bill passed in Florida and this is an extension of that petition but for residence, members, and allies of Georgia.
what does this bill mean?
This bill prohibits any staff in a school to discuss LGBTQ+ issues in the classroom. This means no discussion of homophobia, no pride flags or safe place stickers, no education of gay history or issues, homophobia going without punishment, no safe haven for LGBTQ youth, and many more issues. Not only this, but it allows teachers to out students in an unsafe environment with no consequences.
what does it mean to sign this petition?
By signing this petition, supporters are emphasizing that discussions, acknowledgment, and openness about the LGBTQ+ community MUST be normalized and not something to avoid. The government is not only banning discussions surrounding this topic but by signing this law Georgia is also neglecting to acknowledge LGBTQ+ members. By signing this petition supporters also spread awareness throughout the country and aid in preventing these laws to spread nationally.
why sign?
Whether or not you are apart of the community, this issue affects EVERYONE. This law is actively ignoring, discriminating, and oppressing this community. If we let them (the government) get away with passing laws like this, what will stop them from passing other laws that pose threats to other communities like yours?
I for one, will NOT stand for this. I stand in support as an ally and I plan to hold Georgia accountable and I hope that you all can join me in making a change.
