Adelphi Nursing students, please come together to support all current and future nursing students.  What we need, is to be given a window of opportunity to switch our placements to closer locations.  Not just for the sake of it being more convenient for us.  

Being hardworking students, along with having jobs, family commitments, etc.  Our sleep is already limited, which when adding an unnecessarily long clinical commute, makes it dangerous for us to be out on the road for the extended time being placed further away.  Along with the added expenses of needing to leave earlier and come home later: childcare costs, lost wages from work, etc.  

In the last few months alone, the cost of gas has increased exponentially.  Which has made the already tedious commute for many of us a difficult financial situation. We have asked for opportunities to switch to a closer hospital, but alas, few result in changed results. 

Although we are students, it's important to advocate for ourselves.  We are taught that advocation is an essential part of our future jobs, not only for ourselves, but for our patients. We signed up for nursing school to be tough, but we also deserve our voices to be heard during the time we are here.

The solution: Have a google/excel spreadsheet made for all students that want to switch, give us a firm deadline with about a week to be able to switch.  Then close it, and place us closer to where we live so we don't have to travel as far.  

Disclaimer: We are aware this is a very difficult process to be placed and with the evolving situation with COVID, we are incredibly grateful to have opportunities to be in person.  I am not placing blame or fault on any one individual, and have no ties or reasons for doing this other than helping fellow students.
