Address injustice in the case of Ishonna Pratcher
The Issue
On what was supposed to be a normal day, my niece, Ishonna Pratcher, became a victim of a tragic event stemming from a sequence of preventable actions and failures by the Solon, Ohio police. Ishonna was ejected from a car during a police pursuit. She was not the driver. Her fiancé, Augustine, who was intoxicated, made the reckless decision to flee from the officers who initially pulled him over. Despite identifying signs of intoxication in Augustine, the officers failed to take the necessary urgent actions to prevent him from driving away.
As a result, a high-speed chase ensued on the freeway leading to a devastating crash that not only injured Ishonna but also affected her two young children who were present in the vehicle at the time. These innocent lives now suffer the consequences of a horrific accident, enduring not only the physical aftermath but also grappling with PTSD from the ordeal.
The justice system has held Augustine accountable, as he is nearing completion of his five-year sentence for his actions that day. However, the accountability chain seems to stop there. Astonishingly, no disciplinary action has been taken against the Solon officers whose inaction and mishandling of the situation contributed significantly to the accident. Instead, they remain unpenalized, free to make the same mistakes without repercussions.
We believe in accountability across the board. If the law holds civilians accountable for their actions, it is only fair for the protectors of law and safety to be held to the same standards. The failure of the officers to act effectively during the traffic stop constitutes neglect of duty, and this neglect should be investigated and addressed with appropriate actions to prevent such tragic events from reoccurring.
Let's bring justice to Ishonna Pratcher and her family. The impacts of this tragedy ripple far beyond physical wounds, serving as a constant reminder of how systemic flaws can devastate families. By signing this petition, you are standing with us to demand a full investigation into the actions of the Solon police on the day of this incident, so no other family has to endure what Ishonna's family continues to face. Sign now and help advocate for a safer, more accountable community.
