Address fuel costs for community based carers

Address fuel costs for community based carers
Why this petition matters
Millions of people rely on the support of carers in their own homes to stay safe. That care keeps them at home, reduces pressure on hospitals and GP services, ensures a preventative approach to illness which is more cost effective as issues are addressed straight away before they result in specialist support being needed.
Fuel costs now mean care workers are putting higher and higher percentages of their wages into their cars to continue to come to work. This is no longer sustainable. Care companies cannot afford to reimburse mileage at a higher rate and care staff, falling victim to price rises in every area of living are having to foot the extra.
Carers should not have to pay to go to work. Without them, our already overflowing NHS and respite beds would be pushed past breaking point. something needs to be done before we have a mass exodus from domiciliary care and all these people are left without support.
We are petitioning for fuel cards, or a fuel price cap for all social care staff using their own vehicles to get to and from their clients.
