Address Bluewater Rise Building Concerns

Address Bluewater Rise Building Concerns
Why this petition matters
The residents of Bluewater Rise request the New Bern Planning Commission either delay permits or provide additional inspection oversight for A. Sydes at the two proposed developments "Atlas Valley at Bluewater Rise" and "Olympic Harbour at Bluewater Rise".
Bluewater Rise residents have expressed concerns to the city of New Bern over various issues.
First, the builder is responsible for maintaining streets and sidewalks throughout the neighborhood. Contrary to this, streets and sidewalks are not maintained and present safety hazards in some areas. Streets in completed areas of Bluewater Rise are not up to city standards for the city to accept them when the builder chooses to turn them over to the city for maintenance. The builder does not appear to be making the necessary improvements or repairs, instead focusing on paving new streets.
Second, drainage issues continue in the neighborhood. The builder has already required additional oversight by the city of New Bern when putting in drainage pipe. Swales and ditches have filled back in leading to minor flooding in some yards. Improper drainage also contributes to street and curb damage.
Third, the quality of the homes. Residents have had numerous issues with wiring, plumbing, and appliances. The builder has been known to place repairs months into the future if not completely passing issues off as "normal".
It is not the desire of Bluewater Rise Residents to prevent development of the area. Rather, we desire a community that is well-built and will hold its value for years to come. It is this desire that brings us before the Planning Commission to ask for your help in this matter. Please delay or provide additional oversight in permitting A. Sydes Bluewater Rise Construction until the above concerns have been addressed.
